Forever Traveling

Greetings from Eumundi

Eumundi Market, Queensland
Exploring Queensland’s Charming Town and Famous Artisan Markets

Eumundi rhymes with early or yuppie and it’s no coincidence. Yes you better be early if you want to find parking close to the markets. Home to the biggest concentration of yuppies artifacts in the Queensland region, Eumundi, about 30 minutes from Noosa, hosts Australia’s largest thriving creative market on Wednesdays and Saturdays. You can wonder in between the 600 stalls of crystals, tote bags, dream catchers and smelly candles while eating a gluten free bagel or a lactose free ice cream on the hunt for the best hipster hat. It is truly the perfect place to waste money. This market is nothing like the city markets of Melbourne and Sydney that sell every bit of meat, veg and produce you need in life yet highlights the “not needed” and gets you saying “but i want it” while you feel the need to touch everything in site.

The highlight of this place is most probably the hot dog stand with a wild selection of 3 different sausages and 5 different sauces. Once your belly has been satisfied you will be ready to walk slowly like a zombie through the small alley ways of the arts and crafts market to discover all the wonderful things humans don’t need to survive.

This place reminds you how important it is to stay organize and minimalist when traveling. Looking around at all the things you don’t need, It teaches good habits when it comes to budgeting and saving money. Since we left Melbourne a year ago we cut our rent and utilities (including internet) in half. Travelling has allowed us to save and cut out what we really don’t need/use. Walking though the Eumundi Markets we see how 1.2 million people visit here yearly, it is a boho’s wet dream and consumerism at its best!

Apart from the Markets, Eumundi is a small, vibrant town in the Hinterland region that has a local pub, post office, a few cafes and is a seemingly normal, quiet town on any other day of the week. So if you are ever in Eumundi, the markets are really worth the visit and it is fun. It’s fun to spend unnecessary cash on small trinkets that you will probably loose or break shortly after purchasing. It’s fun to eat over priced bagels and sweet cakes while wondering around the stalls and it’s really fun to spend an hour or two looking for your parked car lost in the sea of ‘All-wheel’ drives. So go pick up something you don’t need in Eumundi!

Forever Traveling, Chris & Claire.
